Bierkashi compositing system is a special type of compositing. In this practice, we can use waste products from the kitchen for soil improvement. We may use meat and dairy as waste products for our composite in this process. It is a fermentation process that uses food wastes into useful soil products. How to do Bokashi Compositing

The bokashi composting system includes some simple steps which are as under;

  1. Collection of Material: Bokashi bucket is a special bin for making a good bokashi mixture. This Bucket is sealed and has a drainage system attached to it. Bran is also essential that contains bacteria. Use the bran to make an airtight environment in the bucket.
  2. Addition of Materials into Bucket: Now add materials to the bucket on the bran. The materials include kitchen scraps like vegetables, meat, eggshells, fruits. Now add another layer of the bran to the materials.
  3. Liquid Drainage: fermentation gives liquid and this liquid must be drained off from the bucket. We can draw off this surplus liquid through the spigot. This liquid also acts as a pure fertilizer that we can use in many ways.
  4. Burying of the Matter: After keeping the material in the bucket. After two weeks in the bucket take off the material from the bucket. Now bury it in the garden. It gives a sour smell during transfer, which resembles a pickle smell. Now material will face anaerobic conditions which will help in fermentation.
  5. Addition to Soil: Remove the composite from the buried place and add it to your garden in different beds. If you spread it uniformly it will give you better results.

Probably the first sign of the successful fermentation process is the release of liquid which we collect through the spigot. This liquid starts releasing in the first week. But its release depends upon the type of food used and time of the year.

Another sign of a good process in the making of the white mold in your bin. It shows that the process is running smoothly and actively.

It is available in the readymade form and we can use it instantly. The cost of bran for a bucket that is full of waste may be around $2 or more. Preparation of bran depends upon the number of your wastes. If you are dealing with huge quantities then you must prepare your own brand.

There are many methods of preparing bran on the internet. But these methods are given for different classes of the bran. These are useful for larger quantities and are not suitable for smaller home wastes. Makers which are dealing with large quantities also grow their own microbes. But this is not suitable for home culture because it is a scientific process.

However, to prepare a bran mixture at home, you can buy EM-1 which is a good microorganism mixture. And then you can further process it step by step. The other parts of the bran mixture are molasses, warm water, and wheat bran. These parts of the bran mixture are added in an arranged manner.

You can use your Bokashi directly in your garden. The process of using composite in the soil is not complex. It is a simple process that involves digging up the trench and pouring the composite into it. We can also use it by digging the soil at different points and spreading the composite in the soil. This is healthy food for beneficial worms in the soil. They grow ten times faster than normal and excrete nutrient-rich feces.

Composite becomes ready to use in almost four weeks depending upon weather conditions in summer. While in winter it may take longer. After that, you can use it at your desired place.
